Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on Youth Devotional Topics
1. How can I make a Youth Ministry Lesson or Sermon Interesting?
This section looks at tips on how to make a Youth Ministry Lesson/ sermon Interesting. We outline practical things or principles that you can include to your youth devotion, or a lesson that will make young people pay attention. These applications will make your youth sermon or lesson relatable and applicable.
Number 1: Ensure it is Bible-centred
The one thing every teacher of the word should ensure they do when preparing a youth or teen sermon is to make it Bible-centred. When the sermon is based on personal views or experiences should not be the ultimate lesson. Real-life experiences are important, but they should not take precedence over what is in the bible. Teach what the bible says, not what you think it says
Number 2: Be passionate
The voice of a passionate teacher or preacher matches his or her body language. If you are not passionate, your listeners will read your actions and also lose interest. The important thing is to teach as if you really believe in what you are saying. If you are not passionate about a certain topic, avoid it or ask the Holy Spirit to change your perspective.
Number 3:Do not fake anything
The worst mistake any Christian youth speaker can make is being unauthentic in regard to their thoughts, voice or behaviour. When giving youth sermons, never entertain the thought of copying anyone’s tone or sermon delivery style. Always stick to what you know and work on improving it. For example, if you were born later than the 1980s, don’t pretend to know and use every word that is commonly used by Gen Z’s. If you do, you will definitely look unreal and fake.
Number 4: Apply the Lesson to their life
Every lesson you teach to the young people should apply to their lives. The lessons should either encourage, correct or give a direction based on biblical truths.
Number 5: Choose to be honest rather than being liked
Every preacher who teaches to be liked loses their credibility. As a youth pastor, do not beat around the bush when the bible clearly offers clear guidelines about a certain matter. An honest rebuke is better than comforting half-truths.
2. What are the best topics for youth devotional groups?
Every devotional topic for the youths should be scripture-based. If you are teaching about sex, teach what is in the Bible, not what you could have read in a magazine. Some of the broad areas to touch on include:
- Life Purpose and Career
- Relationships and dating
- Self-esteem and self-image
- Sexuality
- Social media
- Character Development
- Peer pressure
3. How to choose a Youth Day Theme and Sermon Topic?
The best way to choose this year’s Youth Day theme and sermon topic is to look at the overall lessons you want to teach. Be open to the issues affecting society presently. Ensure you touch on contemporary and emerging issues affecting young people. Look for recurring issues that affect the teens and the young adults.
5-Minute Devotions for Youth
Topic: You are a Reward from the Lord
Psalm 127:3
“Children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
Introduction
As a young person, it is possible you have received at least one gift or two. There are gifts we receive because we have done something good. However, for other gifts, like birthday gifts, there is nothing much we can do to receive them. We celebrate because God’s grace allowed us to see another year. Additionally, there are gifts we receive, and we can attach a certain monetary value to them, and there are others we cannot. Regardless of the value, a gift is something that brings joy.
Lesson 1
Solomon in Psalms 127:3 says children are a reward from the Lord. This means that you are not merely a result of human effort, but a priceless, intentional gift from God. You were entrusted to your parents by God to be carefully guided and nurtured. Your value in the world is not dependent on what anyone says or does not say. It is not the circumstances around you that determine your worth. Before the eyes of God, a child who is located in the most remote area on earth has the same value as a child in the best palace in the world.
Every human being who has ever lived on earth is a reward. You are not an accident or possessions. You are a gift entrusted to your parents by God. Just as a steward is entrusted with valuable property to care for it. On behalf of the Almighty God, your parents have been entrusted with the responsibility of raising you in the fear and knowledge of Him.
Lesson 2
Today, Satan could be attacking you through negative influences such as ungodly media, immoral lifestyles, peer pressure, substance abuse, and violence. He aims to distort your identity and separate you from God at an early age. This means that your godly life is very important.
As a young person, always remember that you belong to God first, and then you are rewarded by your parents. What your parents say or how society regards you may not be true in the eyes of God. To God, you are a priceless reward. No monetary value can ever be attached to you. May you never forget that. Amen
