Jesus Teaching on Prayer

Jesus Teaching on Prayer: This article on Jesus Teaching on Prayer looks at the numerous time Jesus talked about prayers in the four books of the gospels.

During prayers we need to have faith, faith is only built by hearing the word of God. When you go before God you will have a more fulfilling relationship with Him if only you understand what He has directed us.

There is no way specific way to pray, no one is perfect in prayers, only Jesus our high priest understands the perfect way to pray for us. However even in our imperfection we could still have the confidence that when we call upon the name of the Lord He will answer us.

To help you understand what the Jesus taught about prayers below are Bible verses on Jesus teaching of prayers

Prayers requires persistence

Matthew 7:8-11

8 For everyone who asks receive, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (NKJV)

Jesus Teaches How to Pray

Luke 18:9-14

9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortions, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’
13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”(NKJV)

Lesson

How to pray with humility. Prayers require humility, when a Pharisee and tax collector pray we would expect the Pharisee prayer’s to be answered. But it is in fact the tax collector’s prayers that were heard. In prayers he humbled himself.
